The South Effingham Middle School Lady Mustang softball team held its annual banquet on Oct. 23. The banquet was held at the Bethesda United Methodist Church in Guyton.
The Lady Mustangs were honored for winning the Coastal Empire Region Championship.
Each team member received two certificates to commemorate their achievements this season. Three team members were awarded championship game balls for their contribution in the championship game.
Allison Rattanaxay went 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored, Ashton Collins went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs while Haley McEwen went 2-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Katie Kussow was awarded the Academic Award for the highest average on the team throughout the softball season.
Cate Anderson received the coach’s award as well as a game ball for going 2-for-4 in the championship game with a double and two RBIs.
Gabby Graham was honored as the outstanding defensive player for the year for her stellar work as catcher. She also received a game ball for her 2-for-4, with two-stolen base performance in the final game.
Miranda Morris received the outstanding offensive player award, ending the season with a .607 batting average over 16 games. She went 4-for-4 in the championship game.
The Most Valuable Player award was given to Courtney Jenkins for her contributions to the team throughout the season.
Jenkins pitched a complete game in the championship allowing only five hits and one earned run with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Other team members are: Mariah Freeman, Kaity White, Amy Jameson, Kristen Pierce, Casey Rhodes, Mallory Ferguson, Shelby Stephens, Morgan Deal, Reagan Deal and Caroline Graham.
