2009 Black History Month essay, public speaking contest submission deadline Jan. 22

The deadline for submissions to the Georgia Historical Society’s Black History Month Essay and Public Speaking Contest is Jan. 22.

This contest is open to all high school and middle school students. The topic for this year’s contest is Savannah in the Civil Rights Movement. Finalists will present their essays on Feb. 9, with a reception to follow at the Georgia Historical Society’s headquarters on the corner of Gaston and Whitaker streets. Free and open to the public.
