Effingham County commissioners presented a check from the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia’s civic affairs foundation board of directors to Abby Smith, the Effingham County 4-H agent.

The $3,750 grant will go toward the county’s participation in the Georgia Civic Awareness Program for Students. The grant will support the county’s first three years of participation in GCAPS.

Through the county Extension office and 4-H, students will learn how county government provides diverse programs and services, how county government works so they can take an active role in it and how to be engaged actively in local government and see the impact it has on their lives.
