Joshua Frost, a seventh grade student at Ebenezer Middle School, has received a silver medal for the original oil pastel he entered in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards of 2009.

Frost will travel to Georgia State University on Dec. 6 to receive his award from representatives of The Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, sponsors of the competition.

“The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is a very prestigious competition,” said EMS art teacher Marsha Lott.  “To win a silver at the seventh  grade level is extraordinary.”

Lott said she helped Frost enter the competition because she knew it could compete with the best.

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is the nation’s longest-running and largest recognition program for creative teenagers in the visual and literary arts.

Students who participate in the competition have opportunities to earn scholarships and build their portfolios.

Frost’s drawing will be displayed in the front office at EMS after Dec. 8 through January.
