More than a hundred South Effingham High School students took advantage of a recent opportunity to apply to college.

SEHS hosted its first Georgia Apply to College event and 114 students applied to 168 colleges over two days, according to school counselor Michelle Coburn.

Seniors navigated the college application process with assistance from volunteers, many of whom were from local colleges and universities, businesses and community organizations. The goal was for each student to complete at least one college admission application using the GAcollege411.org Web site.

GAcollege411 is an online resource for students as they plan, apply and pay for college. The site provides application and financial aid information for Georgia’s public and private colleges and universities.

In addition to the students who participated in the event, several others already had applied for an early action decision at numerous colleges/universities or applied early to receive academic scholarships. Of the 332 students in the SEHS class of 2015, approximately 150 have applied to college so far, Coburn said.
