Richard and Teresa Burchette announce the engagement of their daughter, Megan Richelle Burchette of Rincon, to Joseph Randall Newton of Americus, son of Garry and Karen Newton.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of the late Franklin and Ilene Sheppard of Savannah and the late Richard and Elizabeth Burchette of Medford, Oregon. She is a 2007 graduate of South Effingham High School and a May 2011 graduate of Georgia Southern University with a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

The groom-to-be is the grandson of Wanda Newton, and the late Richard B. Newton of Greenville, Ala., and Robert Settle, and the late Joanne B. Settle of Greenville, S.C. He is a 2008 graduate of Georgia Southern University with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and a 2010 graduate with a Master of Arts in teaching Spanish. He is currently a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army and is stationed at Fort Rucker, Ala., as an Aviation Officer.

The wedding is scheduled for May 21, 2011, at 5 p.m. on Sweetheart Circle at Georgia Southern University with Pastor Jeffrey Rollins, the bride elect’s uncle, officiating. A reception will be held at the Southern Hospitality Conference Center.
