The American Diabetes Association’s fall campaign, Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes, gets under way with the 5th Annual Hugh H. Armstrong Sr. Memorial Kayak for a Kure, to be held Aug. 18.

The event is $50 and includes entry, barbecue lunch and drinks, live music by The Train Wrecks, and a goody bag.

The three-mile paddle begins at Butterbean Beach and ends at the University of Georgia Marine Extension Service Aquarium, with registration at 9 a.m. and the paddle starting at 10 a.m. The paddle is suitable for beginners and experts alike and is timed to coincide with the tides.

Roughly 20 kayaks are available for use, free to those who reserve them with ADA early — first come, first served.

Individuals can register by downloading the registration form at www.diabetes.org/Savannah or by contacting (912) 353-8110, ext. 3093 or suwillis@diabetes.org. Individuals also are encouraged to visit American Diabetes Association Facebook page, www.facebook.com/SavannahADA.
