Jamie Craig Atkinson, a 1989 graduate of Effingham County High School, and current resident of Washington, graduated with his Master of Education degree in science education from the University of Georgia.
In addition to his recent degree, Atkinson has been named one of the AMGEN-National Science Teachers Association Fellows for the 2008-2009 school year. As an AMGEN-NSTA Fellow, Atkinson will be working in a cohort of science teachers from around the country to enhance professionalism in science education, create new initiatives to enhance science instruction, improve teacher content knowledge, and promote e-mentoring activities among science educators.
Atkinson will be participating in e-mentoring activities through the New Science Teachers Academy and Montana State University that includes a network of scientists and educators working to exchange ideas, information and resources.
Atkinson is married to the former Jennifer B. Lance of Washington. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Atkinson Jr. of Guyton. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. George Asbell of Meldrim, the late Mr. John A. Atkinson Sr. of Savannah, and Mr. and Mrs. Ratchford P. Buckner of Meldrim. He currently teaches science at Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School in Washington.
Atkinson receivers Air Force Commendation Medal
Tech. Sgt. Jamie Craig Atkinson recently received the Air Force Commendation Medal. He is a member of the 165th Airlift Wing, Georgia Air National Guard and is a supervisor in the 165th Emergency Management Flight, 165th Civil Engineering Squadron.
Atkinson currently holds the rank of technical sergeant, has been a member of the 165th Airlift Wing since March 2002, and has previously served in the Georgia Army National Guard and the United States Naval Reserve.
