This past weekend Statesboro’s Cheer South All-Stars competed in the last of their nine competitions for the 2007-2008 year. This was also the end of the graduating seniors’ competition cheerleading career. Six of the 19 girls will be graduating in May so their National Cheer Star Grand National Champion win in Savannah was bitter sweet. Not only did they score the highest in their level 4 division but this team scored the highest scores in the entire competition for all five levels of teams competing.

The six graduating seniors include Ashley Brown of Effingham County.

Keyshia Brunson, Katina Brunson-Archie, Ray “Tater” Mills, Barry Munkasy of GSU cheerleading, and Britany Tremble, a former Cheer South All-Star, have coached this senior team to two Grand National Champion Titles out of their last two competitions. As well as coaching the three other teams.

The Cheer South Juniors level 3 team came in second place, the youth level 2 came in fourth place and the Mini team placed seven. This is the Mini teams first year competing and their second competition. They are 6 years old and under.

The four-team, 58-member, five-coach “small” (according to National Cheerleaders Association guidelines)  gym is a full service cheer gym that offers private cheer and tumbling lessons for individuals and teams wanting to learn skills.

Classes and lessons are available for ages 4 and up, as well as for competition team cheerleading for all levels. High school, middle school and recreation teams are welcome.

Open house is April 14 from 5-7 p.m. at Cheer South All-Star training facility in Statesboro by Mill Creek Regional Park. Tryouts for the 2008-09 Cheer South All-Star season are April 16-18.

Cheer South All-Stars will start their 10th competition season this fall.

Cheer South All-Stars is a member of United States All Star Federation.
