Manna House making plans for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time for families to get together with food to share in their blessings. As the holidays approach, many in the community are making do with far fewer resources because of the economy, job loss, or medical hardships.

Manna House Food Pantry continues to see new faces each month visiting the food pantry for the first time. This will be the second year they have partnered with First Baptist Church of Rincon to assist families with a Thanksgiving meal.  By working together, they plan to serve 600 families with a Thanksgiving meal. This meal will consist of grocery items and Kroger gifts cards to make a Thanksgiving meal for their family.

This assistance is open to residents of Effingham County. Apply at the Manna House pantry office on Monday from noon-2:30 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The deadline to receive a voucher is Nov. 9. It is first-come, first-served and one per household.

Manna House is located at 1210 Patriot Dr. in Rincon, across from the YMCA.   The meal will be distributed Nov. 17 following the Rincon Christmas Parade.

The holidays are also an appropriate time to show one’s appreciation by donating time and resources to those less fortunate. If you are interested in making a donation or need more information, contact Manna House at 826-2037 or Lisa Bush at 665-1985.
