ATLANTA —The American Red Cross Blood Services, Southern Region, recently appointed Tracye Bryant as its communications manager.

Bryant previously served as a public relations representative for Azyre Entertainment, Inc., an Atlanta based public relations firm.  In that position, she has had the opportunity to serve as press secretary for several political candidates, work with NBA and NFL Athlete non-profit foundations and manage the careers of other local entertainers.

No stranger to the American Red Cross, Bryant has served for the past six years on the Minority Recruitment Advisory Board.

“Tracye Bryant brings a wealth of experience and diversity to her new position with the American Red Cross,” commented Randy Edwards, chief executive officer of the Southern Blood Services Region. “We are delighted she has joined us, and will be leading the efforts in educating the public about the work of the Red Cross to our many constituencies throughout the Southern Region.”

In her new position, Bryant will manage all internal and external communications for the Southern Region to include Georgia, parts of Florida and parts of South Carolina. She will be responsible for all efforts to increase awareness of the need to increase blood donation throughout the region. She will manage all media relations, as well as create and implement public relations initiatives.

The American Red Cross has 14 donor centers throughout the Southern Region and needs approximately 1,200 people to donate each weekday in order to adequately supply more than 130 hospitals.  Blood can be safely donated every 56 days.

Platelets can be given safely every two weeks, up to 24 times a year.  Most healthy people age 17 and older, who weigh at least 110 pounds, are eligible to donate blood and platelets.
