Rincon PD to hold first citizens police academy

The Rincon Police Department is currently accepting applications for its first Citizens Police Academy (CPA). The CPA will begin April 9 and is a 10-week program.


The Citizens Police Academy is designed to create a greater awareness and understanding between the citizens and the police department. The purpose of this course is to increase the students understanding of the mission, procedures, techniques, problems, dangers and experiences of the Rincon Police Department.


Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Be 18 years of age
• Complete the Citizens Police Academy application
• Be willing to submit to a background check
• Sign a waiver of liability


Classes will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. at the Rincon Police Department located at 107 W 17th Street. Applications are available at the police department.


Applications must be delivered to the Rincon Police Department, Mon-Friday 8-5 prior to March 29. The applicant must possess a valid picture ID and the application can be notarized at the Rincon Police Department, only if the applicant is present.


There is no fee for this course. Class size is limited to the first 20 approved applicants. Rincon residents will have priority.


The Citizens Police Academy is not a training academy for police officers.
