Ann Purcell, president of the Georgia Salzburger Society, was guest speaker at the Effingham Sunrise Rotary Club on May 27. Purcell demonstrated her passion for researching, collecting and telling the story of the emigrant Salzburgers who came to Effingham County in 1734.
She also displayed excitement about the 275th anniversary of the landing in Savannah in March 2009. A reenactment of the landing and greeting by Oglethorpe will be a highlight of the event. The Georgia Salzburger Society reaches far beyond Effingham County with 1,700 members in 39 states and other countries.
The Sunrise Rotary Club meets at the Guyton Christian Church Center, 105 Third Street in Guyton, Tuesday mornings at 7:30 a.m.
