Dr. Barbara Prosser, CEO of the Effingham College and Career Academy, spoke to the Effingham Sunrise Rotary Club on the increasing competition for jobs in Effingham County from the global suppliers such as China and India.
She also announced a new course on welding that would be starting soon. She said that ECCA also was addressing the need for proper etiquette in the workplace, such as accountability, calling in when sick, showing up on time, and proper cell phone usage. Dr. Prosser also discussed the growing need for one-on-one personal communication skills that are needed for job interviews, and in the workplace.
She said the ECCA has partnered with several employers in the area to better prepare students in their chosen careers through mentoring and intern programs, and by students touring these companies and seeing firsthand just what is needed from prospective employees.
