Even after United Way of Effingham County surpassed its 2014 fundraising campaign goal last month, contributions continued to come in.

The campaign pledges totaled $354,667, which not only exceeded by far this year’s goal of $317,000 but also set a new high in the 31 years of Effingham United Way campaigns. The previous best was $343,007 in 2012.

“We are so thankful for the generosity of Effingham County,” said United Way Effingham Area Director Bonnie Dixon. “United Way appreciates every dollar pledged, from business owners, industries, employees or individuals. Together we are making Effingham a stronger community.”

Dixon attributed the campaign’s success to a three-part “perfect formula”: defined needs in Effingham, a benevolent community and “an organization (United Way) that is a good steward of donations and has a proven track record of successful outcomes.”

The campaign raises money for 24 United Way organizations and programs that provide a variety of services to people in Effingham County.

“It is going to be a fabulous 2015 in Effingham,” Dixon said.
