After two years of all the schools in the Effingham County School System meeting Adequate Yearly Progress, there were two that did not reach that designation for 2009.

Effingham County Middle School and South Effingham High School both failed to meet the requirements for AYP.

ECMS did not reach the goals set on the reading language arts portion of the test. Of the students with disabilities subgroup, 50.6 percent of students met or exceeded the standards. In order to reach AYP in that subject area, 73.3 percent or more of all students in each eligible subgroup had to meet or exceed standards.

There must be a minimum of 40 students for a subgroup to be counted in AYP calculations.

When considering all students counted in the determination of AYP, 87.2 percent met or exceeded standards on the reading language arts portion of the CRCT.

ECMS students did meet AYP standards on the math portion of the test.

South Effingham High School failed to meet AYP requirements in the math and reading language arts portions of the Georgia High School Graduation Test.

To meet standards on the math section, 74.9 percent of all students and of eligible subgroups had to meet or exceed standards. Of economically disadvantaged students, 55.7 percent met or exceeded the standards.

Considering all students who took the math portion of the test for the first time at SEHS, 82.3 percent met or exceeded standards.
On the reading language arts portion of the test, 87.7 percent of all students and applicable subgroups were required to meet or exceed standards. Of students in the economically disadvantaged subgroup 78.6 percent met or exceeded standards.

When considering all first-time test takers, 91.9 percent of students met or exceeded standards.

The school system also failed to meet AYP requirements for 2009.

The system met standards for the CRCT results used to calculate AYP, but failed to meet standards on the reading language arts and math portions of the GHSGT.

On the math portion of the test of all first time test takers 81.2 percent met or exceeded standards, but 64.8 percent of economically disadvantaged students met or exceeded.

On the reading language arts portion of the test, 90.3 percent of all first-time test takers met or exceeded standards, but 83.4 percent of economically disadvantaged students met or exceeded standards.

The report on initial AYP results was planned to be given to the Board of Education at the meeting Thursday night.
