The Effingham County High School Air Force Junior ROTC held its annual awards and decorations ceremony May 6.

Many cadets were recognized for their individual contributions, accomplishments and successes over the school year, as well as helping the unit achieve the Outstanding Unit Award. This is the third year out of the last four years that the unit has earned this award.

The new corps and vice corps commanders for next school year were announced. Several representatives of local veterans and military organizations were in attendance to present their medals and certificates to the cadets.

The corps met all their goals this year, including graduating all their seniors, 1,900 community service hours, and attaining an 86 overall grade point average for the corps. Field trips included a C-130 airplane ride from the 165th Air National Guard Airlift Wing and a tour of a nuclear submarine at Kings Bay Naval Station in St. Marys.
