RICHMOND HILL, Ga. — Jmere Doe-Davis scored on a 66-yard run with 2:06 left in the game, but Effingham’s extra point was blocked, and the Rebels fell 22-21 to host Richmond Hill in the opener for both teams Friday night.
Doe-Davis finished with 148 yards rushing. He also scored on a 69-yard pass from quarterback Matthew Dillon that gave Effingham a 9-7 halftime lead.
Dillon connected on a 57-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Brown in the fourth quarter that put Effingham ahead 15-14 with 10:28 left in the game. Dillon finished with 199 yards passing.
Richmond Hill rallied when Jeremiah Jones intercepted Dillon. The Wildcats regained the lead when Braeden Parsons scored on a 29-yard run with 2:53 remaining.
The game was delayed for an hour in the first quarter because of a thunderstorm.
