As a partner with the Effingham County Board of Education, Effingham 4-H staff works closely with teachers in fourth and fifth grades to provide a quality educational component to compliment the curriculum received at the schools through monthly 4-H club meetings.

At the beginning of each school year, teachers are instrumental in the kickoff of the 4-H year. 4-H Program Assistant Jessica Dasher presented two teachers with a gift from the 4-H staff. Renee Oglesby of Springfield Elementary and Melissa Osteen of Sand Hill Elementary were the recipients of the gift basket filled with items for their classroom. The teachers were rewarded for returning pertinent 4-H materials in a neat fashion and of a timely manner.

The 4-H staff also honored South Effingham Elementary fourth and fifth grade teachers with a gift card for returning their information in a timely manner.

The Effingham County Board of Education approved a $203 million fiscal year 2026 budget Thursday night, reflecting an 11% increase over last year. The rise is largely due to an $8 million spike in health and retirement benefit costs for employees. To help cover the shortfall, the district may raise the property tax millage rate, potentially increasing homeowners’ taxes by up to 12 percent.
