Cant find love? Neither can this NFL star

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has a new life problem to tackle: finding a girlfriend.

In a story thats gained traction across social media, the Texans football star admitted that hes been searching for love, and has yet to find it, according to NFL.com. Speculation rose not too long ago that Watt was dating Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, but it doesn't look like that's the case anymore.

In fact, Watts dating life has been less than inspiring.

"People (I know) think that I've never dated before, or whatever," Watt told the NFL. "But I'm trying. I'm trying. I'm just unsuccessful. My schedule's so crazy and life's so busy, it just hasn't worked."

Indeed, Watt has a busy schedule. Between practice, his NFL games every Sunday and occasional run-ins with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jennifer Aniston, its been tough for the Wisconsin native to find a significant other.

But part of the reason Watt has been unsuccessful in dating is because hes been cautious about potential partners, who may have ulterior motives.

"That's why it's so difficult, Watt told NFL.com. You don't know who wants you for you, who wants you for the money, who wants you for the fame. You have no idea.

But he also admitted that having those trust issues can limit him from finding a relationship.

If you're thinking like that does this person want me for me? then you're gonna have a hell of a hard time falling in love, 'cause you're constantly thinking about what they look like on paper, Watt told the NFL.

Watts dating troubles are somewhat surprising since hes financially successful and has gained popularity at a time when women, especially those in a religious community, have had troubling finding suitable and financially successful men to marry, Mark Kellner reported for Deseret News National last month.

"There's an oversupply of successful women," Wendy Walsh, an adjunct psychology professor at California State University, told Kellner. Women are getting educated in droves. For every two men that graduate (college), there are three women. Fewer peer men are keeping up and women are not looking at (those males) as potential mates."

This has been an ongoing trend for most women, regardless of religious affiliation. As I wrote about last year, women have been waiting to get married until their late 20s to early 30s, according to the Pew Research Center, because they are afraid they won't be financially stable. Women and men alike want to make sure theyll marry someone who will keep them financially secure.

But thats not how all marriage-seekers feel. Some are waiting for a sign from God, others want to make sure theyre marrying 'the one' (though that, too can be impossible). And then there are those, like Watt, who are waiting for the right situation, when the stars align.

"Trust me, I would love to have a wife and kids, Watt told the NFL. I would very much enjoy that. But I also know that you have to be in the right place to do that. You have to find the right situation, and you have to be in that right mindset where you can give everything you have to that. Because whatever I do, I want to be the best at. I want to be the best husband. I want to be the best father. And I need to make sure that I have figured out the proper balance in my life so that I can give the proper time and energy that's needed for that situation."
