Nicholas James Chapman graduated from AW A school and was promoted to petty officer third class on Aug. 1 in Pensacola, Fla.

Chapman had entered the delayed entry program of the Navy while in high school and left for boot camp on Oct. 2, 2007. He graduated from boot camp on Nov. 30, 2007, in Great Lakes, Ill. He will now go to Jacksonville, Fla., where he will train as an aircrewman on a P-3 Orion aircraft.

Chapman is the son of Sandra Chapman of Rincon and the late Richard L. Chapman. He was a 2007 graduate of South Effingham High School and was in their NJROTC program for three years.
