The 35th Grand Youth Session of the Order of the Eastern Star-PH was held in Riverdale on April 22-23 at the Prince Hall Grand East. There are 37 youth chapters in the Grand Youth Chapter. Ten of Clyo chapter’s 14 members attended the session.

This year’s theme “Learning, Giving, and Expecting the Best for our Future” was exemplified throughout the session. “Serving to Learn – Learning to Serve” was the theme of Clyo chapter’s “Good Works Poster” entry that brought home a first place trophy. Clyo also placed in the following categories:

• The 2011 Wilma S. Wallace King and Queen Extravaganza second runner-up Syeidi Younge-Graves. She won the title of Queen for the Savannah First District Youth Chapter on April 3.

• Second place, Louise Harris scrapbook competition — the scrapbook documents community service projects, workshops, current trends and issues for youth, networking with other youth chapters and supporting their events.

Six members of the Savannah First District Burial Demonstration Team performed during the session. They are Jazmyn Cope, Sylitha Kight, Cashman Morell, Tiera Williams, Chanelle Wright and Syeidi Younge-Graves. The Burial Demonstration Team is comprised of seven members.

Clyo also had three members elected to Grand Youth officer positions. They are: Chanelle Wright, Grand Youth Chapter secretary; Jazmyn Cope, Grand Youth Chapter treasurer and Ineza Garvin, Grand Youth Chapter marshal. Tiera Williams, 2010-11 Grand Youth Chapter vice president, presided during the session in the absence of the Grand Youth president. Clyo Youth Chapter expresses its sincere appreciation to its supporters who aid in their success. Advisors of the Clyo Youth Chapter are: Sister Beverly Scott, youth director; and Sister Altena Garvin and Sister Clara Williams, assistant directors.
