Junior Girl Scouts in Troop 30197 learned the power of one and how one person can make a difference through their Agent of Change journey. Now they are giving the community an opportunity to help make a difference.

The girls are collecting items for the Effingham Animal Shelter. Donation boxes have been placed at three locations in Rincon: Top Dog Pet Grooming & Spa, Lovett Hardware and the Effingham Park apartment complex.

Items on the Effingham Animal Shelter wish list include cat and kitten food, dog food, towels (used ones are fine, but must be clean), small litter pans, Dawn dish soap (for getting rid of fleas), Head and Shoulders shampoo (also for fleas), litter, blankets and toys for each dog/cat that is adopted out.

“I am very proud of the girls and very thankful for what they are doing,” said Cindy Underwood, shop manager of Top Dog. “I am glad they have found something they can enjoy doing and that they have good parents to help. I hope their project succeeds and that it will go far.”

Tarah Olson of the Effingham Animal Shelter said, “I am grateful for all of the help from the girls in the troop. It is great to see such young girls doing so much for a good cause. I’m also thankful to the mothers who help the girls help us. I hope the girls all continue to do such great work, not just for the animals, but for whatever cause they may work on in the future.”

Donations can also be dropped off at the Effingham Animal Shelter at 307 Highway 119 South in Springfield. Monetary donations may be mailed to Effingham Animal Shelter, 601 North Laurel St., Springfield, GA 31329.
