Effingham Community Orchestra director Andrea Huff announces that the orchestra will present its third annual “Our Favorites” concert and a silent auction fund raiser on Sunday. The silent auction begins at 2:30 p.m., and the concert will follow at 3 p.m.

The venue for the concert is the Effingham County Recreation and Parks gymnasium at 808 Highway 119 South in Springfield. Admission is free.

“The orchestra has been preparing for this concert all year by learning new music and reviewing existing repertoire,” said Huff.  “Recently, the musicians voted for the pieces they would like to perform at this concert. Attendees will hear movie and Broadway themes, well-loved classical pieces, jazz and a few surprises. There will be something for everyone. I sincerely believe this ‘Our Favorites’ concert will delight and amaze our audience.

“This year’s silent auction offers a large number of excellent items,” Huff continued. “Our professionals and businesses have donated wonderful items and gift certificates for restaurant meals, merchandise and services. Our musicians and volunteers have donated very nice new and quality vintage estate items. There will absolutely be something for everyone. All proceeds from the auction will go directly toward orchestra expenses. I encourage everyone to spend this really fun afternoon with us. Our favorite music pieces may just become your favorites. I think you will see a silent auction item you just have to have.”

It is comprised of both adult and high school youth musicians. It has grown to 50 musicians who perform free community concerts and at community events throughout the county. The orchestra is funded solely by contributions from the participants and donations from community supporters.
