An Effingham County family has been featured in a national magazine as a “coolest black family in America.”

Roger and Sonja Scott were featured in February’s edition of Ebony as No. 55 in the magazine’s list of The Coolest Black Families in America. The Scotts, who have three sons, also sponsor the annual back-to-school rally in Clyo.

“We’re excited to represent a small town like Clyo and represent Effingham County,” said Sonja Scott. “There are great things happening in small places.”

Roger Scott’s trucking business has grown from one truck to more than two dozen.

”Behind that one moment is 22 years of hard work and preparation, and that’s the message,” Sonja Scott said. “Success if for those who are willing to put in the work and when your opportunity comes, you’ll be ready. It’s about the hard work.

“This is not about being one of the coolest black families in America,” she continued. “Everybody has a moment we all celebrate together.”
