Campaign chairman Michael Lee has announced the kickoff of the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce membership campaign.

“Our campaign theme is ‘Bringing People and Opportunity Together,’” Lee said.

The recruitment effort is the largest ever in the Chamber’s 21-year history and will involve more than 60 sales volunteers and Chamber leaders throughout the county.

“Our goal is to recruit at least 100 new members,” Lee said. “We have organized into two 26-member volunteer sales teams. Freddy (Long, the Chamber president) will lead one and I will serve as captain of the other. We have a gentleman’s challenge going and some great prizes and awards for our volunteers.”

Included in the campaign effort will be a number of networking events. On Sept. 12, the Chamber will hold a membership breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at New Ebenezer Retreat and Conference Center. On Sept. 20, there will be a business after hours at 5:30 p.m. at Hinson’s Georgia Market and the stores at 21 Center in Rincon. Another business after hours is set for Oct. 4 at 5:30 p.m. at Kieffer Properties and Park Centre West in Rincon, while an October membership breakfast is set for Oct. 10, at 7:30 a.m. at New Ebenezer Retreat and Conference Center.

“One of our goals for 2007-08 is to broaden the Chamber’s membership base,“ Long said.

The campaign will continue through Sept. 27.

“Earlier this year, we began our Entrepreneur Friendly Community Initiative, which places a major emphasis on assisting entrepreneurs and new businesses,” Long said. “Most firms located in Effingham County employ 20 or less people. Our focus in 2007-08 will be to assist these small businesses and grow the local economy.”

Memberships in the Chamber begin at $200 annually. For more information on Chamber membership and benefits call the Chamber at 754-3301.
