County closes in on service agreements

Effingham County commissioners are scheduled discuss the service delivery agreements in a workshop next week as they inch closer to finalizing those pacts with the municipalities.

Commissioners will hold a workshop on the proposed agreements before their Feb. 3 meeting. The agreements cover fire protection, jail fees, recreation and road maintenance and construction.

The county will contract with the cities for fire protection outside the municipal boundaries and in some cases, operate fire stations owned by the county, County Administrator David Crawley said.
