Effingham County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Bloomingdale man and have charged him with arson in a house fire Wednesday night.

Kenneth Neal Radford, 50, of Bloomingdale, was arrested Wednesday night at approximately 7 p.m. by sheriff investigators in southern Effingham County.

Capt. Mike Bohannon of the Effingham County Sheriff’s office said the fire took place at 114 Eliza Lane. He said the first call to 911 was made at approximately 4:53 p.m.

Sheriff McDuffie said Radford was observed fleeing from the scene of the fire on foot. Witnesses followed Radford to his truck, which sheriff investigators said was hidden approximately 100 yards from the residence.

Bohannon said there had been domestic problems between Radford and his son-in-law.

Radford was charged with arson, burglary, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Bohannon said Radford was still in police custody Friday morning, and the case has been sent to Superior Court.
