A Springfield man found shot inside of his vehicle has died.

According to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Sunday night to a report of a shooting on Oakton Drive. Upon their arrival, deputies discovered a man, identified as Michael Leon King Jr., 38, of Springfield, inside his vehicle with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Effingham Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The ECSO is investigating the death as a homicide, and detectives believe the shooting is an isolated incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
