More than 25 exhibitors and vendors are scheduled to participate in the first Earth Day Festival in Guyton during the annual Sale Along the Trail on April 22 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

Visitors to Earth Day booths along the Guyton Walking Trail can participate in a variety of free events including: creating a seed packet to grow a Native American garden, operating a wetlands model, trying on large butterfly wings, and making hand puppets, among many others. Visitors are encouraged to visit all booths and collect stamps on their festival cards, which can then be entered for a chance to win a prize.

In addition, visitors can learn about composting by fermentation, pollinators and native plants, edible plants, keys to healthy trees, the importance of our wetlands, silk production (sericulture), bike safety, bike trails, archaeology, and area wildlife refuges. Visitors can also purchase pollinator and native plants, gardening supplies, and related apparel.

Morning activities include the “Giant Insect Parade” at 9 a.m., (starting at the caboose) and music by the Effingham Community Orchestra. Visitors are invited to join the Giant Insect Parade starting at 9 a.m. at the caboose and meandering down the trail to the end of the Earth Day Festival. Music will continue from 1-2 p.m. by the Guyton Gospel Jam Band.

The festival and Sale Along the Trail are co-sponsored by the City of Guyton and Effingham Georgia Green. Other participants include: Guyton Elementary School, South Effingham High School, Thompsons’ Garden Plant Nursery, The LAMAR Institute, Ogeechee Riverkeeper, Coastal Wildscapes, Georgia Forestry Commission, Savannah Water Department, Little Plant Things, Bartlett Tree Experts, Live Oak Energy Systems, Kids Bike League, Low Country Turners, Black Creek Nursery & Garden, You Matter; U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Peggie’s Pollinators, Savannah Riverkeeper, and Face Painting by Liz.
