Guyton city officials are scheduled to discuss the proposed purple pipe installation requirement for new construction as well as potential reuse water irrigation during tonight’s council meeting.

Purple pipe is the pipe used for reclaimed water. Guyton’s proposed plans to build a 500,000 gallons-per-day sewage treatment facility and to install a land application system (spray field) call for eventual treatment of wastewater to urban water reuse standards — a higher grade of treatment that allows treated wastewater to be reused on open fields and lands.

In the design development report that Hofstadter and Associates submitted to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division in June:

“Over time the City of Guyton could develop a customer base for an urban reuse system. Once the ‘purple pipe’ infrastructure is installed in the community the City could construct and operate the reclaimed water system.”

Other items to be addressed and/or voted on in Tuesday’s council meeting include:
• Discussion of Guyton’s emergency plan regarding hurricanes and other disasters

• Request by Christas Kyriakides, acting for Olive Branch Restaurant for a sales-by-the-drink malt beverage license

• First reading of an ordinance prohibiting disorderly conduct within city limits

• Purchase of an autodialer for main sewage pump station for $2,650 out of the water and sewer fund

• Consideration of bids submitted to grade the ditch located behind the Guyton Hardware and Lumber building, to be funded from general fund
