Newberry earns spot on PBC Softball Team of Academic Distinction

AUGUSTA -- The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) posted its 2022 PBC Softball Team of Academic Distinction Thursday, with Georgia College putting six student-athletes on the squad.

 

Junior Ashley Schell (Cumming) owns a 3.33 GPA in Rhetoric. Senior Katelyn Hobbs (Thomasville) has a 3.56 in Exercise Science. Junior Brooke Lougher (Suwanee) posted a 3.35 in Exercise Science with a Physical Education minor. Senior Carlie Behan (Cumming) finished with a 3.82 in Marketing, adding an Economics minor. Sophomore Sydney Newberry (Springfield) has a 3.57 in Marketing, and classmate MacKenzie Hoffman (Rocky Face) owns a 3.64 in Exercise Science with a Physical Education minor.

 

Behan brings in her third such honor in her career. Hobbs, Newberry, Lougher, Schell and Hoffman all take the award for the first time in their respective careers.

 

To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee the program.
