Northway wins handily

Jeff Northway is looking forward to his new job as mayor of Springfield after being elected Tuesday.

“I’m looking forward to working with the citizens,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us.”

Northway said he would like to see the continuation of revitalization including the Mars Theater project.

He thanked the residents of Springfield for electing him.

“I look forward to working with the city council,” he said.

Northway received 138 votes. Wanda Laning, the other mayoral candidate, received 22 votes.

Charles Hinely, Kenny Usher and Jeff Ambrose will all continue serving on the council after a close vote with Allen Parker. Hinely received 117 votes, Ambrose received 106 votes, Usher received 104 votes and Parker received 94 votes.

Council members Butch Kieffer and Max Neidlinger, whose seats were not up for election, received write-in votes in the council election.
