Residents complain of ash road pain

It may be a couple of weeks before Effingham County officials decide on how to fix the failing ash roads in the county, but county commissioners are asserting they are working on the problems.

Commissioners were faced with more complaints about the roads, in particular Zitterour Road, at their meeting Tuesday. Ed Roundtree said the road from Midland Road to Highway 30 was in poor condition.

“It is unsafe,” he said.

Commissioner Steve Mason said he and county staff are working on an open letter to the community to discuss the ash roads and what the county can do about them.
