Jessie Tyler has picked up two endorsements in his bid to claim the House District 159 seat.

Tyler, of Rincon, has been backed by Georgia Right to Life and by Chatham County Commissioner Dean Kicklighter. Kicklighter represents the 7th District, which includes west Chatham.

Tyler, who is running against former state representative Ann Purcell for the seat being vacated by Buddy Carter, said he was happy to pick up the endorsement from Georgia Right to Life.

“It meant everything,” he said. “I’ve always been pro-life. That’s how I was raised.”

Tyler said one of his best friends was adopted and he’s alive because his birth mother decided to give him up to a loving family. He also said abortion also can result in psychological damage to the patient.

Tyler said the questions on the Georgia Right to Life survey for candidates were detailed and extensive.

Georgia Right to Life issued endorsements for five candidates last week, including one for Carter in his bid for the District 1 state Senate seat.

The special election for the District 159 House seat will be held Nov. 3.
