Two men may be lucky to be alive after a train struck their pickup Friday afternoon.
Randy Williams and his brother Tom, in a Ford truck, were hit by a northbound train crossing Ebenezer Road around 5 p.m., tying up traffic for about an hour.
Williams, who was working at Ramsay’s Landing, said he was going about the speed limit but had been trying to move something beneath his feet to keep it from jamming under his control pedals and just wasn’t able to stop in time to avoid hitting the train.
He said he had learned in school for truck driving that you needed to try to keep control of the vehicle instead of just slamming on the brakes.
He said that training and the Lord were the only things keeping them alive.
The crossing arms were out and the lights were working at the time of the accident. No one was hurt and traffic was cleared quickly.
