The annual Memorial Day program will be presented at the Veterans Park in Springfield on Memorial Day at 6 p.m.
The event, entitled “Remembering” will feature a special tribute to those from Effingham County who have given their life in defense of our country and our way of life. The program also will feature patriotic music.
“It is an opportunity for our community to come together and remember why we have Memorial Day,” said Ruth Lee, chair of the Veterans Park board. “The holiday provides a long weekend for family and friends to enjoy the benefits of the lifestyle our freedom affords us. While we take advantage of this holiday for trips and recreation, let us all take time wherever we may be on this special day to take a few moments to remember. And as we remember may we give specials thanks and prayers for those whom we honor and for those now across the sea defending our way of life at the very moment.
“It is an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful park at a very pleasant time of the day and also to visit with friends and neighbors. Seating is provided for the audience and it is expected the program will last less than hour. Is there a better way to observe the true meaning of Memorial Day than to take this time on that day? We invite you to join us,” Lee continued.
