CPCE wants a good ordinance in place

Dear Editor:

The Community Progress Council of Effingham desires to take an active part in the drafting of an ordinance regulating the pouring of alcohol.

While the legal responsibility for the drafting resides with the council, we believe our input into the process will ensure a more timely execution of an ordinance. We believe there are critical concerns that must be properly balanced to insure the marketability of the community, yet insuring the intentions for our community to remain family friendly.

It has been a privilege to serve the community and promote the democratic process our founding fathers penned — “We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights governments are instituted among men deriving their just power from the consent of the governed.”

The successful writing of an ordinance will complete the democratic process and fulfill the responsibility we have pledged to the voters of this community. We would like to be notified of any workshops or other opportunities in which we can have a participating role.
