GUYTON, Ga. – Local volleyball fans get a treat when Effingham County plays host to South Effingham and Richmond Hill in a trimatch on Thursday.
The Rebels and Mustangs start the action at 5 p.m. South follows with Richmond Hill in the second match of the day before ECHS and the Wildcats end the night.

All three teams entered the week playing well. The Rebels, despite graduating nine seniors from their school-record 30-win squad last season, are off to a 3-1 start. Richmond Hill is 7-1 with its only loss to Class 6A state champion Alpharetta last weekend at the 2025 South Forsyth Varsity All-City Play Date.

SEHS (4-5) defeated private-school Elite Eight state participant St. Vincent’s on Aug. 14.

A year ago, ECHS won three matches from the Mustangs. Its 2-0 region victory eliminated South from a spot at state.

“They may be young, but you can’t think about that,” SEHS coach Haywood Ellison said. “You have to play them as if they’re the best team in the region. The coaches know each other. The girls know each other. There’s no hate. We just want to win. You can have friendly competition and want to win.”

Both ECHS and SEHS have had trouble with Richmond Hill over the years. The Rebels beat the Wildcats last season but have lost 17 of 19 matches since 2018. South is 0-9 against Richmond Hill since 2018.
