GUYTON -- Sophomore righthander Kaleb Johnson pitched a complete-game, three-hit shutout to lead South Effingham to a 2-0 victory over Lee County in the nightcap of a doubleheader Wednesday night and even the Class AAAAAA state baseball second round best-of-three series.

SEHS will host the deciding third game on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

The Mustangs (25-9) dropped the first game 5-2. The Trojans, the No. 3 seed from Region 1, trailed 2-1 and were down to their last out in the seventh inning before four straight hitters reached base. Kaden Wilson's single tied the game and Cooper Ray's two-run double broke the deadlock two batters later.

Smith Pinson, a Kennesaw State signee, pitched a one-hitter for the victory. Noah Hollis' home run was the Mustangs' lone hit.

In the second game, Johnson, who blanked Richmond Hill in a game that decided the Region 2 championship, got SEHS even. He struck out nine, walked one and allowed just three singles against Lee County. Only one Trojan reached second base.

South managed only four hits but took advantage of two errors to score the only two runs of the game in the fifth inning. Maddox Shiell's two-out double drove in the first run and a throwing error led to the second run.
