SPRINGFIELD -- A 1-0 victory slipped through Effingham County's chilly fingers Friday.

The Rebels, benefitting from a stellar pitching effort by Merritt Evans, entered the final frame against Redan up 1-0 but ended up on the short end of a 5-1 decision. A walk and a couple errors helped erode the slim seventh-inning advantage.

Evans left the game, played in 40-degree temperatures, after allowing one run on one hit. He also notched 10 strikeouts.

Raiders starter Kevin Rios also pitched well, allowing one run on five hits while going the distance.

Chrys Hawks paced the Rebels (1-3) offensively with two hits and an RBI..

Effingham County will host Islands and Metter on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
