DEENOS gymnasts bring home plenty of medals

Eight gymnasts from DEENOS Planet Gymnastics in Rincon traveled to Orlando to compete in the AAU National Age Group Championships at Disney’s Wide World of Sports. The girls ranged in age from 9 to 14 and represented five levels as a part of Team Georgia. More than 1,400 gymnasts gathered from all over the country for the four-day event.

Anna Collins (age 10) represented Level 3 and had a personal best on vault with a 9.6 that won her the gold.  First-year competitor Amanda Edwards (age 9) earned a silver on beam with a 9.4  and a bronze on floor exercises with a 9.45 in the XCEL silver division. Emma Peel (age 9) scored a personal best on her vault with a 9.0 in the XCEL gold division.

Also competing in XCEL Gold were 12-year-olds Katie Cartrette and Molly Hammond. Cartrette had a phenomenal meet, scoring a 9.4 for fourth on vault, a 9.375 for the bronze on floor and a career high 9.825 on the uneven bars for the gold. Hammond racked up three fourth-place finishes on uneven bars (9.60), balance beam (9.0), and floor exercise (9.325). In Level 7 competition,

Piper Doten (age 9) placed sixth on uneven bars and Nicole Crean (age 14) placed seventh on vault with a 9.20.  Taylor Doten (age 12) finished off the weekend in Level 8 competition where she earned a silver on vault (8.825), Golds and career highs on uneven bars (9.35) and  floor exercise (9.70). Doten earned the silver medal in the all-around with a 36.375.
