Effingham County High School’s softball team kept its winning streak going with a 13-0 five-inning win over Brunswick on Tuesday.

Shelby Duff baffled the Lady Pirate batters all evening, pitching a no-hitter and recording seven strikeouts.

With the win, Duff improved to 6-2 on the season.

The Lady Rebels (9-2, 3-1 Region 3-AAAA South) parlayed timely hitting, several walks and wild pitches into 13 runs.
ECHS coach Tesh Pace said the team is starting to come together.

“We’re picking better pitches to swing at, which gives us more of a chance to get hits in there instead of dribbling them out,” she said. “We’re playing as a team and know that region is important and they see now that after that loss they took that they need to win out to draw a good seed in the tournament.”

After suffering a 1-0 loss to Wayne County to open region play, the Lady Rebels have won three consecutive region games. They swept a double-header with Ware County on Saturday. They go for their fourth straight win tonight when they host Glynn Academy at 7 p.m.

The Lady Rebels got on the board early, striking for three runs in the first inning. Kayla Calhoun and Duff led off the inning with back-to-back walks. Marie Fogle brought them home with a triple. Fogle later scored on Whitney Smith’s sacrifice fly to left field.
