ECRP athletes take seven first-places at state track

Effingham County Recreation and Parks participated in the Georgia Recreation and Park Association State track meet in Carrollton on April 30 and May 1. Nine local children participated in the meet.

A total of seven gold medals along with six of the athletes placed in the top two in the events that they participated in. The kids had to compete against approximately 680 other participants from around the state.

Trinity Mercer took first place in the 8 and under girls 50 meter and 100 meter dashes, and was second in the standing long jump. Mercer won the 50 with a time of 6.53 seconds, setting a state record, and won the 100 in 16.09 seconds. She had a 5 feet, 5 inches best in the standing long jump.

Jeremiah Mercer was first in three events in the 14 and under boys. He won the running long jump at 19-6, 100 meters at 12.82 seconds and the 200 meters at 24.62 seconds.

Jordon Mercer won the 8 and under boys softball throw at 94-6, and Malori Jenkins won the 10 and under girls softball throw at 101 feet.

Takera Wallace took second place in the the 8 and under girls running long jump at 8-7, and Chanses Bowers was second in the 10 and under girls running long jump at 11-10.
