The South Effingham girls tennis team rolled to an easy win over Cairo, sweeping all five matches in the first round of the Class AAA state playoffs Wednesday.
Top singles seed Jessie Kessler blanked Melissa Washington 6-0, 6-0, No. 2 seed Allison Williford beat Carlee Willis 6-2, 6-1 and No. 3 seed Courtney Edenfield beat Lyhlee Gainous 6-1, 6-0.
The Lady Mustangs’ doubles teams did not drop a game in two matches. The No. 1 tandem of Cassie Hiatt and Katherine Perrin beat Rachel Kussel and Kellee Knight 6-0, 6-0, and the No. 2 team of Kalie Adams and Raven Giles blanked Madison McKenzie and Dana Brock 6-0, 6-0.
The Lady Mustangs will host the Hardaway Lady Hawks, a 4-1 winner over the West Laurens Lady Raiders, next.
