Lady Mustangs win 2-AAAAA championship in thrilling fashion

GUYTON -- South Effingham clinched the Region 2-AAAAA softball championship Thursday by outlasting Statesboro.

The Lady Mustangs won the deciding game of the best-of-three set 1-0 when Cheyenne Miller delivered a walkoff hit in the 10th frame. 

Alex Brown led South Effingham, which lost Wednesday's opener 2-0 before rebounding to win the second game 10-2, with three hits. Allie Ergle had two base knocks. Rachel Mixon, ReAnn McCloy and Alexa Johanson chipped in one hit apiece.

Kastin Belagorska was the winning pitcher, scattering six hits. She fanned seven and walked one.

The Lady Mustangs will host a first-round state tournament series next week.
