Lady Rebels win without Hayes

The Effingham County girls basketball team beat Hardeeville (S.C.) on Tuesday night, but did so without longtime coach Nate Hayes.

Hayes was not on the sidelines for the game and the Effingham County school board is investigating an incident from the game against South Effingham.

Principal Yancy Ford referred all comments to Superintendent Randy Shearouse. Shearouse and school board members were in executive session following their regularly scheduled meeting Wednesday.

It is not known how long the school board’s investigation will take. In the meantime, boys assistant coach Curtis Stevens is coaching the girls team. Effingham has a Region 3-AAAA road game Friday at Brunswick and goes to Calvary on Saturday in a non-region game.

The Lady Rebels’ next home game is Tuesday against Hardeeville.
