Staff report

The Effingham County Rebels football team finished the drill Friday night.

The Rebels snapped a three-game losing streak with a convincing 27-0 win over Wayne County, squaring their Region 3-AAAA record at 3-3 and going to 3-4 on the season.

Eric Maxwell picked off two passes, with both interceptions leading to touchdowns, and the Rebels rolled up more than 230 yards rushing.

The Rebels’ defense also held the Yellow Jackets (1-6, 1-5 region) without a first down in the second half.

Michael Johnson’s touchdown gave the Rebels a 7-0 lead, and Raymond Hines added another touchdown for a two-touchdown lead.

In the fourth quarter, Chris Hamilton’s 4-yard TD run and Dyone Youmans’ 4-yard score on fourth-and-goal put the game away.

Hamilton finished with 107 on 15 carries and Dalton Couey was 2-of-4 passing for 54 yards. Wayne County was held to 55 yards on 20 rushing attempts and 128 total yards.

The Rebels will host Statesboro, a 42-6 winner over Richmond Academy, next.
