Salisbury takes ninth in state meet
SEHS girls 18th, boys 25th

South Effingham’s Susan Salisbury took ninth in the Class AAA girls cross country meet Saturday at Carrollton High School, finishing in a time of 20:09.58.

Salisbury edged North Hall’s Mallory VanGorder for the ninth spot.

Katie Pittman of SEHS was 99th at 23:39.25 and Alyssa Mastrianni was two spots back with a time of 23:43.05. Shelli Clay finished in 25:13.74, Kimberly Tabakian had a time of 25:58.21 and Brittany Way finished in 26:50.30.

South Effingham finished 18th while Westminster captured the state title as four runners placed in the top 15.

Emily Reese of Chamblee won the individual title with a time of 17:56.44, more than a minute ahead of second-place finisher Bret McDaniel of Riverwood (19:10.66).

Richmond Hill was 15th and St. Vincent’s Academy was 16th in the team standings.

Bradley Boyd was the top South Effingham boys finisher with a time of 18:00.44, taking 53rd among the 224 runners. Isaiah Broomfield finished in 19:04.08, JB Braswell finished in 19:08.51, .36 in front of teammate Adam Schaffner, Ryan Pittman came in at 21:02.08, Zac Nelson finished in 21:13.53 and Martin Porterfield finished in 21:28.63.

South Effingham’s boys were 25th in the 32-team field. Westminster, with four runners in the top 15, won the state title.

Charles Sparks of Columbus was the individual winner with a time of 15:46.51, almost 10 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Nabil Hamid of Druid Hills.

Benedictine, led by Pearson Beasley’s 58th-place finish, was 12th in the team standings as five runners finished in the top 86.
