The South Effingham Middle School baseball team reclaimed the region championship with a 6-0 victory over the Effingham County Middle School Panthers on April 15. Following the game, SEMS Principal Pete Iott awarded the runner-up trophy to the Panthers and the championship trophy to the Mustangs.
The Mustangs were 11-0 during region play and 4-0 in non-region play.
In the championship game, Josh Huggins had 10 strikeouts and allowed allowed only three hits in the shutout. The Mustangs pounded out nine hits including an inside-the-park home run by Nathaniel Robinson. The Mustangs did not allow a baserunner past second base.
